Why was Insuladd developed?
Back In 1996 NASA encountered problems with heat generation on the aft casings of the Solid Rocket Boosters on the Space Shuttle. These provide 60% of thrust on take off. A new environmentally friendly improved coating was required to block heat transfer from the rocket motors exhaust to the casing. The product developed was called INSULADD® and its most important property is that it has a very low thermal conductivity to significantly reduce heat transfer.
These thermal blocking properties give rise to a new type of "Insulation" and many new industrial and domestic applications.
In 2007 it was officially designated an official NASA Spin-off product.
